The Director of Student Rights & Responsibilities (SRR) is a senior level position in the Division of Campus Life and Inclusive Excellence and will provide comprehensive visioning, strategic planning, assessment and implementation to the SRR department. They will provide Departmental, Area, Divisional, and University leadership to enhance the student rights and responsibilities experience and to support the University’s compliance efforts related to statutory and regulatory requirements pertaining to student conduct and discipline. The Director is responsible for evolving the four cornerstones of SRR as part of the strategic visioning for the University and the SRR department. The four cornerstones (Conflict Resolution, Crisis Management, Restorative Justice, and the Honor Code including Outcomes Council are grounded in inclusion, equity, diversity and restorative practices.
The Director is responsible for upholding the Honor Code in a manner consistent with the stated mission of the University through investigations, formal and informal adjudication of violations, and overseeing the appeals process.
The Director will provide leadership for all members of the community to understand everyone’s right to:

- Live, work, and learn in an educational community that values respect, integrity and responsibility; and
- Become informed, competent, committed, and ethical leaders in a global society.
They will facilitate staff growth and development and must demonstrate a commitment to the principles of inclusion, equity, and diversity. This position reports to the Executive Director for Community Engagement and serves as a member of the Student Success Area Leadership Team. The Director of Student Rights and Responsibilities supervises two Assistant Directors. This is a full-time year-round position, M-F 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (37.5 hours per week), with some evenings, weekends and holidays.
Campus and Divisional Leadership
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, administrators and students to create a Student Rights and Responsibilities process embedded in conflict resolution, restorative justice, and traditional conduct procedures.
- Serve as Chair of the Title IX and Equal Opportunity Outcomes Council and partner with the Title IX Office and Office of Equal Opportunity to create accountability models for students involved in sexual misconduct, relationship violence, or bias related discrimination.
- Serve on the Student Success Divisional Area Leadership Team.
The Director will provide leadership to the University’s Crisis Assessment Risk Evaluation (CARE) Behavioral Intervention Team and work in partnership with the Director of Student Outreach & Support to further evolve behavioral intervention procedures, practices, and education for students, faculty, and staff.
Education and Training
Collaborate with divisional and campus partners to engage in skill-building in areas including conflict resolution, restorative justice, thriving in diverse communities, and living honorably through respect, integrity, and responsibility. Train DU’s campus community on the Honor Code and restorative practices.
- Oversee and manage of SRR including strategic planning, visioning, implementation and assessment.
- Partner with the Faculty Director of the Honor Code to advise faculty, disseminate and act as a clearinghouse for information related to academic integrity issues and work with faculty to resolve Disruptive Classroom Behavior situations.
- Lead annual policy reviews on all relevant SRR policies and procedures.
- Problem-solve higher level SRR cases.
- Supervise, train and evaluate two Associate Directors.
- Assist Campus Safety with Clery Reporting.
- Serve as the Primary Maxient Administrator.
- Oversee regular review of policies and procedures including annual updates and publication of the Honor Code.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Experience in assisting organizations to comply with relevant statutory and regulatory requirements pertaining to student conduct/discipline.
- Experience in facilitating training and education.
- Organized and detail-oriented.
- Demonstrated experience with excellent judgement and decision making.
- Knowledge of the Clery Act, Title IX, and other federal and state statutes and regulations, policies and guidance related to student conduct processes and procedures in higher education.
- Possess diplomacy, tact and the ability to manage confidential student information with discretion.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Master’s Degree or relevant Graduate degree.
- 5+ years of experience in student conduct, conflict resolution, student affairs, residence life and/or related field.
- Leadership, management, and supervision experience.
- Strategic planning, visioning, and assessment experience.
- Experience with conflict resolution and restorative justice.
- Demonstrated experience and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Knowledge of Federal and state statutory, regulatory, and legal developments related to conduct issues in higher education.
- Doctorate Degree
- 5+ years of supervisory experience with full-time staff.
- Experience with Maxient and Banner Data Systems.
- Experience developing and implementing an Honor Code.
- Experience working with faculty in higher education.
- Experience working with parent and families in higher education.
- Experience with behavioral intervention policies and procedures including threat assessment.
- Experience with student development.
Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (37.5 hours per week) year-round with some evenings, weekends and holidays.
