Duties & Responsibilities

The Assistant Dean of Enrollment Services plays an important role in ensuring that the Kennedy School attracts and enrolls the most talented students. The Assistant Dean oversees all Enrollment Services functions and activities and directly supervises the Director of Admissions, Registrar, and Director of Student Financial Services. Works extensively and collaboratively with other senior managers as a member of the Degree Programs and Student Affairs (DPSA) senior leadership team in support of the mission and goals of DPSA, HKS and the University.

In consultation with the Senior Associate Dean for Degree Programs and Student Affairs, the Assistant Dean of Enrollment Services develops strategies for all enrollment services areas including student recruitment, admissions and financial aid. Works closely with the Dean of Students and school leadership to set the vision and the goals related to building an optimal class of master's students, as well as developing and implementing plans to evaluate the effectiveness of all enrollment services strategies. Responsible for assuming a key leadership role in high-level planning and conversations with constituents across the HKS community on matters pertaining to e.g. student body composition, admissions practices and results, fundraising to support recruitment and fellowships, and developing marketing and communications materials as they pertain to recruiting students.

Additional responsibilities include:

Develop and implement strategies for enhancing the quality and diversity of the student body. Work with the HKS Alumni Affairs and Resource Development office, the HKS Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging, and other key stakeholders in support of student recruiting and enrollment.

Oversee the activities of the degree programs admissions working groups and committees. Responsible for evaluating a high volume of applications and serves as a member on the various admissions committees.

Approve or set policies (as appropriate) and ensure all Enrollment Services functions, systems and processes are consistent with or in compliance with HKS and University policies and applicable law. Ensure that the enrollment office employs best practices in support of a community of students from richly diverse backgrounds.

Oversee the admissions, enrollment, financial aid, and recruitment budgets, oversees all hiring in Enrollment Services, and is responsible for developing and implementing staff training plans for the unit.

Assume the principal leadership role in the preparation of enrollment related materials in the University's Tuition Enrollment and Financial Aid planning document and oversees enrollment data analysis to prepare enrollment headcount and financial projections.

Regularly evaluate the business needs, structure and practices of Enrollment Services through e.g. benchmarking against other institutions and systematically soliciting and analyzing feedback from key constituents including students, faculty, and staff.

Contribute to DPSA's strategic planning efforts and other department-wide initiatives.

Serve on internal and university-wide committees to inform school-wide policies and contribute to special projects and initiatives as needed.

Basic Qualifications

Master's degree. Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in graduate higher education administration, and at least five years managing a professional staff. Familiarity with admissions and financial aid programs.

Additional Qualifications

Candidate must have a collaborative, diplomatic style of leadership; possess excellent written and verbal communications and marketing skills. Experience with budget projection and management and high level data analysis required. Very strong working knowledge of operations, issues, trends in topics of admissions, recruitment, financial aid and student registration. Candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to strengthening the diversity of the student body and capacity to engage with a diverse school community.
