Position Details: Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a full-time, three-year position of Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychological Science to begin September 1, 2020.

Major/Essential Functions: The annual teaching assignment will be 7 courses, one of which may be a one-month January Term intensive course determined by the candidate and appropriate to the candidate’s expertise. Primary teaching responsibilities will include Child Development, Adult Development, and advanced seminar courses in the candidate’s specialty. Additional teaching responsibilities may include contributions to the departmental required courses, such as courses in general psychology and statistics and research methods.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in Developmental Psychology (or a related field); we will consider candidates who have achieved ABD status and who will complete their degree by September 1, 2020;
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching;
  • Evidence of a commitment to undergraduate teaching and student advising; and
  • Evidence of a commitment to pedagogical methods that enable students across racial, ethnic, and socio-economic groups to reach their maximum potential.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching undergraduate courses, and knowledge of evidence-based pedagogy;
  • Experience advising and engaging in research collaboration with undergraduates; and
  • A clear understanding of the importance of a liberal arts education and a vision for contributing to that education.
