New York University’s Expository Writing Program (EWP) invites applications for full-time Language Lecturers to teach intensive first-year writing courses across the university. Terms begin September 1, 2019. Current program needs include individuals with expertise in teaching writing, as well as those with special expertise in teaching English-language learners and international students. The number of positions is subject to budgetary and administrative approval.
Openings are for renewable full time, non-tenure track positions. Language Lecturer appointments are for three years, subject to renewal based upon a review and the recommendation of the department. Subsequent reappointment can be made for up to three years and include the possibility for promotion to Senior Language Lecturer. Lecturers teach a 3-3 load, and all Expository Writing Program faculty are expected to participate in ongoing faculty development and program service. New faculty are required to attend a week-long intensive faculty orientation before the semester begins.
Successful applicants will be strong writers who have demonstrated mastery of writing in their field and excellence in college-level teaching, including designing curriculum that emphasizes inquiry, critical reading, and creative thinking. We welcome and encourage applicants from across the disciplines.
- 5 or more years’ experience teaching composition, creative writing, or other writing-intensive courses as the instructor of record;
- experience teaching multilingual students, including international students, particularly composition and expository writing;
- experience in teaching, scholarly or creative pursuits, and/or institutional service that demonstrates a commitment to building, engaging, and sustaining a diverse, unified, and just campus community
- PhD, MFA, or EdD (ABD considered, subject to successful completion of the PhD before the appointment begins);
- 3 years’ experience teaching composition and expository writing, creative writing or other writing-intensive courses as the instructor of record.
