Job Summary/Purpose:

Assist with the day-to-day operations of the bookstore. Operate cash registers, perform associated cashiering duties of processing payments and bagging goods, greet staff and general public and provide information and assistance.

Job Location is on the Bend/Redmond Campus.

Limited positions available for Summer Term 2018. Hiring will begin prior to Fall Term 2018 business needs. If hired for Fall Term, training will begin late August to early September. Position lasts from Summer/Fall Term 2018 through the end of Spring Term 2019 (if available, we keep employees until the end of June).

Terms of Employment:
• This is a part-time (<.50 FTE) Federal Work Study position
• Requires flexible work schedule, which may include evenings and/or weekends as well as travel throughout the district when needed.
•Must have been awarded and accepted Federal Work-Study for 2018-19
•Must be meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress for financial aid.
• Upon hire, must pass criminal and/or driving history; only information relevant to the position will be considered.

Essential Functions:

1. Operate computerized cash register system.
2. Balance cash, checks and daily receipts.
3. Greet customers and provide customer service, both in person and on the phone.
4. Assist regular staff with stocking food and beverage, and receiving food orders.
5. Responsible to straighten, organize and clean bookstore.
6. Follow daily bookstore opening and closing procedures.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidates must possess the listed knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. The incumbent is expected to follow College work rules and policies.

1. Visual ability to read price tag information. Ability to read the English language sufficient to read customer checks, customer identification, the computer screen, and other similar written materials.
2. Basic English language writing skills for completion of payment processing, customer checks, and paperwork involved in balancing the cash register.
3. Basic mathematical skills, including addition and subtraction, necessary to verify cash register functions, balance cash register, make change, and assist with inventory counts.
4. Able to maintain confidentiality at all times and exercise a high level of professionalism, tact and diplomacy.
5. Ability to work cooperatively with and contribute to a diverse workplace through ideas or experience.
6. Sufficient manual dexterity in at least one hand to be able to operate all cash registers and electronic equipment and manually complete paperwork; and to unload, price, and stack merchandise.
7. Able to communicate with others using the English language, with or without the use of an interpreter.
8. Visual ability, corrected, to enable the cashier to observe at a distance of 30 yards and to verify customer identification and read computer monitor and cashiering forms at close range.
9. Willingness to work at various hours as required during the seasons of rush, finals, and other seasonally peak periods.
10. Skills or experience with, email, internet, word processing, and spreadsheets (preferably experience with MS Office Suite Products).

Physical Demands and Other Ergonomic Requirements:

Work is performed in an open area setting. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to function effectively indoors in an open environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature with the majority of time spent siting or standing at workstation for extended periods and moderate lifting. The employee is regularly required reach, bend, lift, stoop, crouch, and perform similar physical functions while processing orders and waiting on customers. Work also requires long periods of standing, sitting, use of hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms and requires near visual acuity to write, read written materials and computer screens, and sufficient hearing and speech ability for ordinary telephonic conversations. Able to lift or transport goods up to 20lbs. Computer screen is used more than 50 percent of the time. Occasionally, student contact can be hostile. All individuals are required to be able to perform the essential
functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
