Job Summary/Purpose:

Provide practical flight and ground instruction for college degree-seeking students. Professional airplane pilot, and professional helicopter pilot career paths apply. Maintain all student paperwork in compliance with FAA regulations.


Terms of Employment:
• This is a part-time (<.50 FTE) Temporary position
• Requires flexible work schedule, which may include evenings and/or weekends as well as travel throughout the district when needed.
• Upon hire, must pass criminal and/or driving history; only information relevant to the position will be considered.


Essential Functions:

1. Maintain flight and ground operations records.
2. Responsible to set goals for students and communicate/document student progress in accordance with College program requirements.
3. Invoice and verify student flight lab account status.
4. Plan and dispatch all flights accurately.
5. Prepare all Federal Aviation Administration paperwork prior to the check ride
6. Responsible to be present during student solo flights and know the destination, route and contact number’s for students on the solo flight.
7. Follow all safety procedures and flight requirements outlined by Aircraft Rental companies/ college.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Individuals must possess the listed knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. The individual is expected to follow College work rules and policies.


1. Extensive knowledge and understanding of aviation (airplane/ helicopter as appropriate, rules and regulations).
2. Knowledge of teaching and instruction of various audiences and group dynamics.
3. Ability to speak effectively to others information and ideas so that others will understand and skills to follow through.
4. Able to work collaboratively with students, staff, faculty, company reps, and the general public.
5. Able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, using the English language without the use of an interpreter.
6. Ability to work cooperatively with and contribute to a diverse workplace through ideas or experience.
7. Skills to use general office equipment.
8. Skills and familiarity with use of following software Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, E-mail) and be able to navigate the internet. Must be able to learn Total Fixed Base Operation (FBO) software on the job.
9. Ability to travel throughout College district, and willingness to work various hours in a non-traditional workweek as required.
10. Must be able to demonstrate essential job functions as outlined above.


Physical Demands and Other Ergonomic Requirements:

The employee is regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms and requires near visual acuity to write, read written materials and computer screens, and sufficient hearing and speech ability for ordinary telephonic conversations. Occasional lifting under ten pounds for 15 percent of the time. Computer screen is used more than 70 percent of the time. Must be able to climb or pull self-upward and guide, feeding materials into proper position. Able to crawl under desks to check cabling and able to carry supplies between campus buildings. All individuals are required to be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Associate’s Degree required, or show ability to complete Associate’s Degree within one year from date of hire.
2. Current Airplane or Helicopter Certified Flight Instructor (instrument) ‘CFII’/ Multi Engine Instructor (MEI) rating as appropriate.
3. Second Class Medical Certificate (FAA requirement).


Special Necessary Qualifications:
• Valid Oregon Driver’s License or the ability to obtain within 30-days of employment (TSA requirement).

• 100 hours of flight and/or simulator time within the past 12 months
