Job Summary/Purpose:

Summary: Teach CPR Basic Life Support, Heartsaver CPR/AED/First Aid and other CPR and First Aid courses as offered following the American Heart Association curriculum. Instructors may teach classes on campus or at facilities, independently or with a co-instructor, based on the size of the class.


Terms of Employment:
• This position is limited duration to be filled as needed term-by-term or course-by-course, and is a non-benefited position.
• Candidate must be flexible with work hours to meet evening or weekend class schedules; able to drive throughout College district as needed.
• Successful completion of background check and vehicle reference check are required upon hire.
• Must be aligned with the COCC American Heart Association Training Center.
• This posting will remain active until filled


Essential Functions:

1. Deliver courses by facilitating video presentations, lectures, hands-on skills demonstrations.
2. Teach curriculum according to AHA requirements, test students and conduct remediation as needed.
3. Complete post-course rosters and/or paperwork.
4. Participate in appropriate professional development and training activities to assure currency in discipline, knowledge and instructional methods.
5. Maintain a high standard of professionalism and ethics with students, colleagues and the community.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Instructors must be able to meet timelines and complete tasks without on-site management presence.
• Abide by all AHA guidelines including the AHA Program Administration Manual.
• Abide by all COCC policies and procedures.
• Ability to complete with accuracy required paperwork and certifications within specific timelines.
• Skill and ability to maintain any required American Heart Association certifications.
• Skill in public speaking; be comfortable in front of a class of adults.
• Skill in time management and ability to teach and organize independently.
• Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
• Ability and willingness to travel throughout the College district and or teach at various hours and locations, as required of the position.
• Ability to operate or oversee the operation of computers and other written materials.
• Able to meet alignment with the COCC AHA Training Center.
• Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, using the English language with or without the use of an interpreter.
• Must be able to demonstrate essential job functions outlined above.

Work is performed primarily indoors, in a classroom setting. The incumbent is expected to follow College work rules and policies. The employee is regularly required use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms and requires near visual acuity to write, read written materials and computer screens, and sufficient hearing and speech ability for ordinary telephonic conversations. Physical movements involve guiding, feeding materials into proper position. Lifting objects vary daily, ranging between 1-25 pounds. Must be able to climb or pull self upward, kneel, stoop, crawl and crouch. Computer screen is used approximately 20 percent of the time. All individuals are required to be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

2. Previous teaching experience (classroom or professional/corporate training)
3. Registered on the AHA Instructor Network.

Special Instructions to Applicants:

This is a PT Instructor position for the Continuing Education department. This position is part-time, non-benefited, and hired on a term-by-term basis.
