Job Summary/Purpose:

The Automotive Program seeks qualified individuals to serve as a Lab and Tool Room Assistant. Provide full customer service (phone and in-person) to campus staff and students in the Automotive Tool Room.

Terms of Employment:
• This is a part-time (<.50 FTE) Temporary Hourly/Non-Benefited position
• Requires flexible work schedule, which may include evenings and/or weekends as well as travel throughout the district when needed.
• Upon hire, must pass criminal and/or driving history; only information relevant to the position will be considered.

Essential Functions:

1. Willing and able to prepare instructional equipment and vehicles for instructional purposes.
2. Maintain the Tool Room in good order. (i.e., tools cleaned and put away promptly, etc.)
3. Maintain and repair electrical and mechanical equipment as instructed.
4. Check equipment in and out to instructors and/or students based on current and future established procedures.
5. Be alert to security concerns, and report matters of security or safety to Campus Public Safety or Campus Services immediately.
6. Secure doors of rooms not in use.
7. Provide good customer service by providing efficient and courteous service to staff, students, and customers.
8. Remain flexible with job tasks and shift hours to maximize the effectiveness of each program.
9. Routing cleaning of shop floors, tables and equipment on a daily basis.
10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1. Familiarity with tools and shop equipment that are used in Automotive.
2. Familiarity with and ability to operate or oversee the operation of audio-visual equipment, including overhead projectors, film, sound systems, video, television, interactive video and audio equipment including computer-controlled mixed media presentations.
3. Ability to operate or oversee the operation of computers and other written materials.
4. Ability to orally communicate effectively with others, using the English language, with or without the use of an interpreter.
5. Ability to communicate effectively in writing, using the English language, with or without the use of auxiliary aids or services. Familiarity with and ability to remain in communication with the Automotive Program Director and program staff and faculty on a regular basis.
6. Ability to work with Automotive Program Director, faculty, Instructional Dean and other COCC staff at all levels.
7. Ability to work cooperatively with and contribute to a diverse workplace through ideas or experience
8. Must be able to take direction from all department staff members.
9. Able to analyze, organize, and complete transactions on a timely basis.
10. Must be flexible with job tasks and hours.
11. Must be able work with a diverse population and to interface with College staff and the public effectively and diplomatically, both in-person and on the telephone.
12. Visual ability, corrected, to enable assistant to observe, direct, and supervise students in classroom situations.

Physical Demands and Other Ergonomic Requirements:

Working hours are regular, per the established work schedule. Work is performed in an ordinary office, mostly sitting. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to function effectively indoors in an office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature with the ability to sit or stand at workstation for extended periods. The employee is regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms and requires near visual acuity to write, read written materials and computer screens, and sufficient hearing and speech ability for ordinary telephonic conversations. Occasional lifting under ten pounds for 15 percent of the time. Computer screen is used more than 75 percent of the time. All individuals are required to be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. High School diploma or GED.
2. Knowledge of automotive hand tools.

Special Qualifications:

1. Customer Service experience.
2. Familiarity with automotive equipment.
3. Bi-lingual proficiency in English and Spanish is a plus.
