Job Summary/Purpose:

The Wildland Fire Science (WFS) Program seeks a qualified individual to serve as an office clerk. This position will assist the WFS Program Director in the office and classroom.


Terms of Employment:
• This is a part-time (<.50 FTE) Temporary Hourly/Non-Benefited position
• Requires flexible work schedule, which may include evenings and/or weekends as well as travel throughout the district when needed.
• Upon hire, must pass criminal and/or driving history; only information relevant to the position will be considered.


Essential Functions:

1. Assist with WFS course office and classroom workload.
2. Assist with WFS program communication.
3. Coordinate with other College personnel, students and agencies to assist with event set-up.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using another combination of skills and abilities. The incumbent is expected to follow College work rules and policies.


2. Ability to communicate by writing, phone, and email.
3. Knowledge of editing, duplication and/or faxing.
4. Familiarity with and ability to operate or oversee the operation of audio-visual equipment, including overhead projectors, film, sound systems, video, television, interactive video and audio equipment including computer-controlled mixed media presentations.
5. Ability to perform data entry and spreadsheet review.
6. Ability to maintain inventory of department and program supplies
7. Ability to perform a range of electronic and traditional organizational tasks including but not limited to filing, cache organization, and email documentation.
8. Ability to review, understand and apply concepts presented in training programs, conferences, and/or professional literature
9. Ability to work with WFS Program Director, faculty, Department Chair, Instructional Dean and other COCC staff at all levels.
10. Willingness to travel and/or coordinate events at various hours and locations including during weekends and evenings, as required.
11. Ability to work cooperatively with and contribute to a diverse workplace through ideas or experience.
12. Ability to operate and oversee the operation of computers and other written materials including familiarity with and ability to use Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and simple Excel documents.
13. Ability to verbally communicate effectively with others, using the English language, with or without the use of auxiliary aids or services.


Physical Demands and Other Ergonomic Requirements:

Working hours are regular per the established work schedule. Work occurs in an ordinary office, mostly sitting. Extended standing with some lifting is possible occasionally.. Incumbent must be able to function effectively indoors in an office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature. Requires the ability to sit or stand at workstation for extended periods. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms. Requires near visual acuity to write, read written materials and computer screens, and sufficient hearing and speech ability for ordinary telephonic conversations. Lifting of objects up to 50 pounds occurs at times. Must be able to climb or pull self upward, kneel, stoop, crawl and crouch. All individuals are required to be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. High School Degree or GED equivalent
2. General clerical or reception experience

Special Qualifications:

• Previous employment experience with a community college.
• Bilingual candidates encouraged to apply
• NWCG certifications are a plus
