Tenure-track Faculty Position -- Environmental Chemistry

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in Environmental Chemistry, starting August 16, 2013.

SIUE is a comprehensive state university, offering a wide variety of undergraduate and master’s programs. We serve over 14,000 students on a beautiful 2,660 acre campus, located approximately 20 minutes from St. Louis, MO. The applicant will have access to state-of-the art research equipment and teaching facilities, including lab and office space in a new science building (scheduled to open Spring 2013).

The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in support of the Department of Environmental Sciences. Preference will be given to an individual who can teach one or more of the following, in addition to environmental chemistry: introduction to environmental sciences, fate and transport of environmental contaminants, analysis of environmental contaminants or other courses in the applicant’s area of expertise. Teaching assignments will include lecture and laboratory/field courses, at both undergraduate and graduate (M.S.) levels.

The Department seeks an applicant who has demonstrated an ability to develop an active, independent research program in environmental chemistry. We are seeking an individual whose primary research experience is the chemistry of air, water, soil and/or sediment environments, including effects of environmental contamination or other human activities. Preference will be given to applicants whose teaching and research would complement the strengths of existing faculty and contribute to interdisciplinary collaborations. The selected applicant will be expected to mentor undergraduate and master’s students in their research laboratories, seek external grants to support an active research agenda and produce scholarly publications. The position includes a competitive salary and start-up package. A Ph.D. is required; postdoctoral and teaching experience is desired.
