Job Summary
Angelo State University invites applications, nominations, and letters of interest for the position of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. The Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs (PVPAA) provides vital leadership and vision for academic direction at Angelo State University. The PVPAA provides open and collaborative leadership in all levels of the institution, including overseeing the academic deans and department chairs. The PVPAA is the primary advocate for the faculty and is responsible for oversight of all academic divisions, departments, and programs and services that support them. Working collaboratively with the other Vice Presidents, the Provost reports directly to the President and serves in his stead as requested. The PVPAA must be able to focus resources toward achievement of established strategic plans and development of new directions at a university where enrollment, retention and student success are top priorities.

The PVPAA is responsible for guiding and shaping academics through recruitment, development and retention of a diverse and progressive faculty and academic staff. Additionally, the PVPAA works with the Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management to improve recruitment and retention, and with the Vice President for Finance and Administration for budget development, strategic initiatives, and priority-setting.

Compensation is commensurate with qualifications. A generous benefits package is also provided, including payment for moving expenses and temporary short-term housing.

Duties Position Responsibilities:

Providing general development and direction of curriculum in all academic programs;

Developing long-range planning and budget priorities that promote academic success;

Supporting, promoting, and enhancing excellent faculty teaching, scholarship, departments and programs;

Supervising faculty promotion and tenure;

Promoting and providing direction for the University's research and creative endeavors;

Maintaining effective channels of communication with the President, Faculty Senate, and faculty;

Collaborating and coordinating with system-level academic leadership;

Fostering and maintaining partnerships with the University's external communities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of:

Strong academic and administrative leadership;

Experience with operational and financial management of a complex academic organization;

Excellence in teaching and scholarship suitable for appointment as a tenured full professor in an academic discipline at Angelo State University;

Leadership fostering excellent teaching, strong scholarship and creative endeavor;

Strategic academic planning, policy development, budgeting, and academic personnel administration in a higher education setting;

Success in leading accreditation processes;

Commitment to the principles of diversity, fairness and public service;

Experience fostering partnerships between a university and the communities and region it serves;

Understanding of current issues and future directions in higher education;

Ability to make difficult decisions in a timely manner and to motivate various segments;

Strong interpersonal and critical problem-solving skills;

Ability to represent the university locally, regionally, nationally and abroad.
Physical Requirements

Qualifications
Ph.D. or other terminal degree in an academic discipline from a regionally accredited institution. Excellence in teaching and scholarship suitable for appointment as a tenured full professor in an academic department at Angelo State University.

Preferred Qualifications:
A high level of collaboration, teamwork, listening and communication skills.

Other Information:
