International Student Adviser and Enrollment Coordinator

The International Student Adviser and Instructional Support Coordinator position’s primary purpose is to ensure compliance with various government policies, regulations and programs related to Hamline’s Global Initiatives, and manages relationships with all international students and scholars at Hamline.

Representative Duties and Responsibilities:

SEVIS Compliance:
*Ensure compliance of all Global Engagement initiatives and affiliated students with all Department of Homeland Security through proper, timely and efficient use of the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). 
*Responsible for the accurate issuing of the form I-20 and DS-2019;
*Develop university policies and procedures regarding international student employment on campus, including but not limited to the Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and the Optional Practical Training (OPT) Policy.
*Ensure accurate record keeping of SEVIS compliance;
*Document other SEVIS processes as needed.

International Student Advising:
*Advise international students that are direct-enrolled or participating in exchange programs at Hamline University on issues relating to visa status and compliance.
*Manage CPT and OPT process with multiple stakeholders across the University.

Record Keeping:
*Ensure accurate maintenance of the Banner database and the historical data management
*Collaborate with IT regarding all international coding;
*Create and maintain policies and procedures regarding the record keeping process.

Crisis Management:
*As needed to accept communications regarding emergency situations involving international students;
*Monitor world-wide events, such as natural disaster or political issues, to be able to respond appropriately as a support to Hamline international students;
*Provide a safe environment for international students to discuss concerns they are having regarding adjustment, cultural differences, mental health concerns, academic difficulties, interpersonal relationships, and others;
*Refer students to resources on campus and to professional help as appropriate;
*Gather information from stakeholders involved in students’ situations in order to provide best possible support;
*Keep records of significant issues involving international students;
*Provide cross-cultural communication support in order to ensure international students receive best support and care possible.
