Job Summary
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Angelo State University is accepting applications for the position of instrument technician.

The Angelo State University-Howard College Cooperative HSI-STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Program was funded by the U.S. Education Department (ED) under Title III for a period of 5 (five) years, beginning October 1, 2011. Under general direction from Project Director, the Instrument Technician will be responsible for the maintenance and operation of the NMR for Angelo State University's Chemistry Department.

Continuation of position after the expiration of the grant is dependent upon funding.

The qualified candidate will be expected to provide support services in the operation and maintenance of the characterization and analytical instrumentation used in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department, with special emphasis on NMR spectroscopy. Other duties may include training students and faculty in instrumental techniques and/or working with faculty in the development and execution of experiments, or as otherwise assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The successful candidate should have knowledge in the operation and repair of common laboratory instrumentation, gas chromatograph, high performance liquid chromatography, mass spectroscopy, and infrared spectroscopy with an emphasis on nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.

Physical Requirements
Mainly office position with minor lifting associated with NMR maintenance.

Qualifications Master's degree in chemistry with experience working with NMR. Candidates must have current authorization to work in the United States for any employer.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in the the development and execution of NMR experiments.
