Orange Coast College is currently seeking a full-time tenure track Cardiovascular Technology and Diagnostic Medical Sonography Instructor and Coordinator of Clinical Education commencing with the 2017 fall semester. The primary teaching assignment involves all aspects of the clinical experiences of students enrolled in both programs, including organization, administration, continuous review and revision, planning for and development of locations (with appropriate supervision) for evolving practice skills, and the general effectiveness of the clinical experience. This assignment also includes curriculum and program development, participation in department, division, college committees, and participatory governance activities assuming leadership roles both within the department and in the institution as a whole; collaboration across disciplines and the leveraging of student support resources; and participation in ongoing professional development.
The assignment may be day, evening, weekend, online or off campus and is subject to change as needed. The ideal candidate for this position embraces the overall mission of Orange Coast College and the Coast Community College District, with a clear, focused commitment to supporting teaching and academic excellence and student learning and success through the work of Cardiovascular Technology and Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
Examples of Duties: Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Provide instruction in Cardiovascular Technology and Diagnostic Medical Sonography in accordance with established course outlines.
• Provide leadership in the development and revision of Cardiovascular Technology and Diagnostic Medical Sonography curriculum.
• Participate in curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation; participate in and develop programs to measure student performance.
• Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter areas.
• Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
• Fulfill the professional responsibilities of a full-time faculty member including, but not limited to the following: teach all scheduled classes unless excused under provisions of Board Policy; follow the department course outlines; keep accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and progress; submit student grades according to established deadlines; post and maintain scheduled office hours; participate in departmental meetings and college and/or district-wide activities and committees as assigned.
• Assignment may include day, evening, weekend, and online sections.
• Function as an instructor and program clinical coordinator for the CVT and DMS programs; teach assigned classes in theory, classroom laboratory, and clinical instruction.
• Fulfill the professional responsibilities of a full-time faculty member including, but not limited to the following; teach scheduled classes; follow department course outlines; keep accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and progress; perform student clinical evaluations, post and maintain scheduled office hours; participate in department and division meetings and college and/or district wide activities and committees as assigned.
• Function as CVT and DMS Clinical Education Program Coordinator.
• Ensure and maintain compliance of clinical programs following JRC-CVT/CAAHEP, JRC-DMS/CAAHEP standards. Includes communication and preparation of reports with appropriate agencies as well as the District and College Administration.
• Maintain program course Student Learning Outcomes and assessment process, assist in program review process.
• Assure clinical reliability standards.
• Responsible for organization, administration, continuous review, planning, development, and general effectiveness of clinical experiences to include clinical evaluations, physician contact, student assignment, and clinical records.
• Maintain ongoing communication and site visitation with all active clinical sites.
• Responsible for curriculum according to national standards, state and local regulations - course development, updates, planning, revising, implementation, and evaluation.
• Maintain current knowledge of the professional discipline and educational methodologies through continuing professional development.
• Assignment may include recommendation of clinical affiliations and the assurance of instructional quality of clinical education by regular visits to clinical education centers.
• Coordinate the scheduling of classes, including the recommendation of part-time assignments to department IUA/Chair and Division Dean.
• Communicate with state and national professional associations.
• Work cooperatively toward mutual goals with other program coordinators and with the School of Allied Health Professions Faculty.
• Recommend the purchase of equipment and supplies and coordinate repair of lab equipment to assure program quality.
• Develop instructional innovations to ensure program success.
• Assist with program outreach, including publicity, community relations, advisory committee membership and meetings, external funding opportunities, and campus events.
• Work collaboratively and in direct consultation with the CVT and DMS Program Directors.
Must meet one of the following qualifications under (a) through (d):
(a) Possess the California Community College Teaching Credential for this subject area.
(b) Possess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution AND two (2) years of professional experience.
(c) Possess an Associate's degree from an accredited institution AND six (6) years of professional experience.
(d) OR, possess a combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent to the above.

• Ability to complement existing staff, student and community demographics in terms of professional and personal skills.
Additional Required Qualifications:
• Possess valid registered credentials in the following areas: Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) - adult and Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) - Abdomen and OB/GYN.
• Have a minimum of four (4) years' experience combined as a RDCS and RDMS with at least two (2) years in clinical care.
• Graduate of an accredited Cardiovascular Technology (CVT) or Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) Program.
• Bachelor's degree in any field of study, but preferably a related field.
• Have a minimum of two (2) years' experience teaching in an accredited CVT and or DMS program either as an appointed faculty member or as a clinical preceptor.
• Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT).
• Evidence of student success in teaching Cardiovascular Technology and Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
• Evidence of participation in student success initiatives in post-secondary setting.
• Evidence of an ability to address the instructional needs of a diverse and frequently underprepared student population.
• Evidence of an ability to effectively engage with and facilitate authentic learning for students of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences.
• Evidence of an ability to adapt teaching pedagogy to the knowledge level (developmental through transfer) and personality of each individual and class.
• Evidence of an ability to self-reflect and respond to an evidenced-based assessment of student learning.
• Evidence of innovation, scholarship, or leadership in the teaching of Cardiovascular Technology and Diagnostic Medical Sonography, especially clinical courses.
• Desire and demonstrated ability to participate actively in department, division, and college committees and in the shared governance of Coast Community College District.
• Desire and evidence of an ability to take on leadership roles both within the department and in the institution as a whole.
• Ability to work with computers, and use the Internet and interactive technologies to engage students in on-campus and online courses (where academically appropriate).
• Evidence of an ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Conditions of Employment
For a full-time, two-semester position, a maximum starting range of $49,354 to $84,144 is offered, based on the 2016-2017 salary schedule of $49,354 to $110,177. In addition, an annual stipend of $2,878 is offered for possession of an earned doctorate from an accredited institution. The District provides medical, dental, and vision insurance for the employee and eligible dependents and life insurance for the employee.
