ABOUT THE POSITION:

This position serves as the liaison between the college, its campuses and centers, and the community. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, establishing strong working relationships with various community agencies, school boards/systems, and other interested groups. Duties include researching and recommending various programs and curriculum offerings, promoting the college to underserved portions of Polk County, and raising awareness of the educational opportunities that Polk State College can provide.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES:

  • Develop a comprehensive outreach and recruiting plan including defining target groups, specific strategies, outcomes and measurements.
  • Coordinate with local agencies and groups to find or create opportunities to promote Polk State College and its programs including Collegiate High School, Educator Preparation Institute and Corporate College.
  • Maintains college-wide outreach and recruitment calendar. Coordinates outreach and recruitment events with admissions, advising, financial aid, academic departments, EAP, EPI or other appropriate persons/departments.
  • Facilitate events and discussions with local agencies/interested parties to determine the needs/wants of local communities.
  • Attend and participate in local community events in an effort to promote higher educational opportunities.
  • Be knowledgeable about academic programs, dual enrollment, Institute of Public Safety, Allied Health and other special programs.
  • Maintain and prepare reports about outreach and recruitment activities and outcomes on a prescribed regularly scheduled basis.

Generally, for exempt positions starting salaries are between the minimum and the midpoint (benchmark). For Career (non-exempt positions), it is between a Step 0 and a Step 5 on the appropriate level.”

Qualifications

  • Because this position will be required to regularly represent the College to a wide variety of community groups, the incumbent must maintain a presentable appearance and have good grooming skills.
  • Requires the ability to quickly make a favorable impression on persons from a wide variety of socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Requires ability to work independently on broader assignments with the responsibility for the planning of work. Makes decisions within accepted standards.
  • Good organizational skills, with special attention to details.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Experience with the implementation of outreach and recruitment activities.
  • Experience developing print or electronic publications, brochures, and other informational materials.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with college personnel.
  • Excellent writing, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to community involvement.

 

Required Education:

Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution is required.

 

Preferred Education:

Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with a Master’s degree in Education or other related field.

Three to five years in working in student or academic services area on a college or university campus.

 

Preferred Experience:

Bilingual (Spanish/English) language skills are preferred.
