Job Summary/Purpose:

Position Summary: To provide instruction in youth Culinary oriented courses, including lecture and lab components. Continuing Education instructors are responsible for planning and instructing non-credit classes to the general population of youth for ages 15 and younger, throughout the Central Oregon Community College district. Non-credit classes vary widely in the number of hours and course sessions.

Terms of Employment:

• This position is limited duration to be filled on term-by-term need, is non-benefited, and non-exempt hourly.
• Candidate must be flexible with work hours to meet evening or weekend class schedules; able to drive throughout College district as needed.
• Successful completion of background check and vehicle reference check.

Essential Functions:

1. Instructors are responsible for course development, teaching and classroom management.
2. Instructors are expected to assist with marketing their classes, with approval for all marketing from the Continuing Education Marketing Manager.
3. Prepare and furnish students with an approved syllabus and or course outline.
4. Teach curriculum according to departmental standards.
5. Complete post-course paperwork.
6. Participate in appropriate professional development and training activities to remain current in knowledge and instructional methods.
7. Maintain a high standard of professionalism and ethics with students, colleagues and the community.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

Physical Demands and Other Ergonomic Requirements:

Work is performed primarily indoors, in a classroom setting. The incumbent is expected to follow College work rules and policies. The employee is regularly required use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms and requires near visual acuity to write, read written materials and computer screens, and sufficient hearing and speech ability for ordinary telephonic conversations. Physical movements involve guiding, feeding materials into proper position. Lifting objects vary daily, up to 50 pounds. Must be able to climb or pull self upward, kneel, stoop, crawl and crouch. Computer screen is used approximately 10 percent of the time. All individuals are required to be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Professional training in the discipline in which you would provide instruction.
2. Experience working with youth of middle school age.
3. Verifiable references in the field of intended instruction.
4. Current demonstrated experience in Culinary.
5. Non-credit instructors are expected to have verifiable expertise in the area they wish to teach. Teaching experience is a plus.
6. Culinary Arts instructors must be able to develop a course menu, budget and stay within budget when selecting ingredients and materials.
7. Must pass an ODE Criminal History Verification.

• Previous teaching experience (classroom or professional/corporate training)
• ServSafe Certified and Oregon Food Handlers Permit

This is a PT Instructor position for the Continuing Education Department at COCC. This position is part-time, non-benefited, and hired on a term-by-term basis.

Part-time instructor pools are posted for the term to obtain applications from those interested in teaching part-time as a non-benefited instructor, on a term-by-term basis, in the area of discipline advertised.
