CASUAL Circulation Assistant

Under the general supervision of the Circulation Supervisor, participate in the daily activities of the circulation/reserve desks in H-L Library, the Media Commons and branch libraries, supervise student assistants staffing these desks, prepare materials to be placed on reserve, physically maintain library collections, and assist library users with a variety of information and technical questions.
A high school diploma or GED equivalent (or equivalent combination of education and experience) required, with some college strongly preferred. Applicants must possess outstanding interpersonal, supervisory, customer service, and written and oral communication skills. Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills are necessary. Proficiency with Microsoft Office required.
Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents:
Required: One year of library, customer service or related experience.
Preferred: Experience working at a library’s circulation or service desk and with an automated circulation system; experience in supervision and training.
Standard Work Days and Hours:
10-30 hours per month, on an as-needed basis.Hours generally include evenings (5:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.) and weekends, with occasional daytimes (8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.).
