ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF TEACHER EDUCATION
Department: Teacher Education
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in special education. Additional teaching in general education, and/or early childhood. Pursue scholarly activities in publishing, research, and professional endeavors. Work as a team member with other professionals, serve on committees, pursue grant projects, and serve as an academic advisor.
Teaching, committee work, academic advising, program reviews and development, field-experience supervision in K-12 schools, report writing, and analysis of assessment data for program improvement.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Possess strong knowledge and skills in assessing, diagnosing, and planning lessons and instructional programs for students with special needs, students in general education and early childhood classrooms. Experience with online learning. Must possess strong organizational skills, current technological skills, and a desire to develop innovative learning-teaching experiences. Candidates should be dedicated to excellence in teaching with a strong commitment to high professional standards both in and outside the classroom. The ability to write and develop grant projects and to pursue scholarly endeavors is desired.
Qualifications An earned doctorate in special education or related field with general teacher education/curriculum and instruction or equivalent from an accredited institution. Hold certification in special education, general education, and/or early childhood education. Have three or more years of teaching experience in public/private K-12 school system in special education/general education required. Experience in college/higher education teaching, development of curriculum and pedagogy.
