Job Summary:
The Department of Biology at Angelo State University in San Angelo, TX seeks applicants for the tenure track position of Assistant Professor of Biology. Teaching, research, and service are the primary responsibilities, but the successful applicant is also expected to perform other departmental duties as assigned. Nine-month appointment with the possibility of teaching summer classes.

The successful applicant will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses with special emphasis in ecology/biogeography as well as other related courses as assigned (e.g. introductory biology for majors/ecology labs/seminar). The applicant will develop a graduate course in the area of expertise as well as one that incorporates geographic information system (GIS) tools for biology at the undergraduate/graduate level. It is expected that the successful applicant will develop an active research program and conduct research with undergraduate and graduate (master's level) students. The applicant will also be expected to participate in departmental, college, and university activities, advise students, and serve on various departmental and university committees.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
The successful applicant should possess strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills and the ability to develop innovative learning and research experiences for students. Knowledge of biology sufficient to teach and assess academically rigorous undergraduate and graduate level courses and develop an undergraduate and master's level research program consistent with the applicant's field. Applicant should possess strong evidence of teaching and research excellence along with a strong commitment to high professional standards, both in and out of the classroom. Involvement in community service and professional organizations is expected.

Physical Requirements:
Position requires prolonged periods of standing, sitting, occasional walking, and intermittent lifting. Medium level of manual dexterity is required; occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.

Earned Ph.D. in Biology with specializations in ecology/biogeography from a regionally accredited institution. ABD applicants will be considered but the doctorate must be completed by the end of the first semester of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred consideration will be given to those applicants with:
1. expertise in GIS
2. expertise plant ecology [or] expertise in avian ecology with an interest in curating an existing bird collection.
3. the ability to procure external funding
