animal facility using established policies and procedures as prescribed by
federal and state laws and regulations. Will perform multiple assignments,
including cage changing, general care, monitoring and reporting on animal
health, maintaining and reporting on facility equipment, cleaning and
sanitizing of assigned animal rooms, carrying out receiving procedures, and
performing animal census tasks. Will be responsible for animal room records,
animal identification, and notification of appropriate personnel concerning
irregularities in the environment, animal health, and behavior.
High School diploma or equivalent required; certification at the Assistant
Laboratory Animal Technician (AALAS) level preferred. One year of experience
in a research facility is preferred, although a two year college degree can be
substituted for one year of work experience. Must be knowledgeable of federal
and state laws regulating animal use in research, familiar with standard
operating procedures, and able to handle and restrain animals.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds and tolerate a significant amount of standing,
bending, and walking. Must not be allergic to animals, latex, waste products,
