Job Description-Overview :
TUSK, the Tufts University Sciences Knowledgbase, is a comprehensive open source educational system serving health sciences graduate education. Started in 1995, TUSK is now used in 6 US medical schools and 11 universities in the developing world. As part of the USAID funded REPOND project in conjunction with the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, the Office of Technology for Learning in the Health Sciences,TLHS, which produces TUSK is helping universities to respond to emerging pandemic threat. TLHS has many service agreements to assist in the installation and training of TUSK which brings occasional foreign travel.
The Senior System Administrator is responsible for building and maintaining the TUSK servers in a manner consistent with the application. The key responsibilities include:
* Installing/upgrading the hardware and server software,
* Occasional travel to international sites to install and train staff
* Planning and making recommendations for future hardware and space needs,
* Designing and implementing a disaster recovery plan,
* Troubleshooting system problems,
* Working with the development staff to keep software versions current,
* Installing and maintaining TUSK systems at our partner schools domesticly and internationally,
The Sr. Systems Administrator must understand the TUSK application and consider the developers and other TUSK staff as his/her clients by consulting and providing documentation on all systems. The administrator must be able to work with other TUSK administrators in a coordinated manner to serve the needs of the TUSK applicaion, and work with the Tufts departments including UIT and its divisions, as appropriate.


Job Description - Requirements :
Basic Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience or High School Diploma and equivalent with 10+years of experiance. Must have Linux Systems administration experience and experience with open source tools, including virtualization with KVM and libvert. Have expertise in MySQL; Apache; and Perl. Technical background in a multi-platform, multi-protocol production environment. Demonstrated experience in the following areas installation, configuration, tuning, security, backup and recovery. Demonstrated experience with programming and scripting languages, especially perl.  Excellent problem resolution, analytical and, verbal and written communication skills particularly with respect to creating and maintaining documentation. Ability to work with people at all levels within the university; ability to work with vendors; and ability to work independently and in groups.
Perferred Qualififcations:
MS in a related field. Experinece with database administration. Experience with Eucalyptus, OpenStack or Cloudstack. In-depth experties with puppet or chef.
Special Work Schedule Requirements:
May be asked to perform occasional server maintenance, upgrades, and problems during non-business hours.
