More Americans With High Quality Degrees By 2025

The higher education attainment rates among adults, first-generation-college-going students, low income students, and students of color are significantly lower than those of other students. The gap has endured for decades and is now widening. The Lumina Foundation intends to incrae the percentage of Americans with high quality degrees and credentials to 60% by the year 2025.

Academic Outcomes of High Risk Students

Traditional students-those without risk factors and with greater rates of postsecondary success-are in the minority. Many non-traditional students need to understand that the range of social and economic barriers to student success is imperative. Persistence, completion and transfer rates, the numbers and percentages of credits completed, and the grade point averages of the various student groups were examined.

Promoting Partnerships for Student Success

California's 110 community colleges are an essential part of the state's higher education and workforce development structure, serving over 2.6 million students annually. But a growing number of students face major obstacles to success including inadequate preparation for college-level courses, and many end up dropping out. New scholarship suggests that student support services, such as academic and personal advising, counseling, tutoring, and financial aid, are critically important for promoting better academic outcomes for students.

Latinos Are Losing Jobs At A Higher Rate Than Other Ethnic Groups

Latino unemployment in California, which has been rising rapidly, reached 15.7% in the last quarter, exceeding African American joblessness for the first time in the current economic downturn. The state's Latino unemployment is projected to hit nearly 18% a year from now. Among 12 states with enough data to compare unemployment by ethnicity, California is the only one where Latino joblessness leads all other groups.
