The Board of Trustees of the Peralta Community College District has announced the appointment of Dr. Jose M. Ortiz as its new chancellor to lead Berkeley City College, College of Alameda and Laney and Merritt colleges in Oakland, Calif.
Dr. Veronikha Salazar has been hired to lead the new Hispanic Outreach and Retention Office at Armstrong Atlantic State University (Ga.). She will be responsible for providing academic support for Latino students and supporting the Enrollment Services Office and the HOLA Program to facilitate community development and outreach.

Impact of Affirmative Action in Graduate Education

The study raises an issue of great importance for both the nation's future and the national debate over the necessity of affirmative action. As affirmative action has been banned in several states and the U.S. Supreme Court is set to consider the issue for the third time this fall, it's vital to understand what impact the loss of affirmative action has had in particular states and to consider whether these states have found alternatives that maintain diversity without affirmative action.
